Our History

The Highlawn Community Alliance was founded in 2017 by community leaders dedicated to the revitalization of the Highlawn neighborhood of Huntington, West Virginia. Initially led by the faith community, the Alliance quickly grew to include civic leaders and residents alarmed by escalating drug use, crime, dilapidated housing and disinvestment in the neighborhood. Now a 501(c)3 nonprofit, the organization partners with the city, other non-profits, and local churches to achieve cooperative growth in the neighborhood. These cross-sector partnerships work to strategically develop former industrial sites, invest in local housing, and build community infrastructure. In 2021, the Alliance received major financial support through the America’s Best Community Award.
